May 3 – 7th - Anniversary Celebration of Bisbee Farmers Market. Music by Johnny Bencomo on his 18 string guitar (country western and Classics). Peter Gierlach, AKA Petey Mesquitey, native plant grower extraordinaire, will debut at the Bisbee Farmers Market with native, drought tolerant plants from his Spadefoot Nursery near the Chiricahuas. Besides growing native plants for over thirty years, Peter is a poet and a musician, well known for his Growing Native radio show at KXCI Community Radio in Tucson where the moniker Petey Mesquitey was coined. Look for Petey under the special events tree, where he will hold forth and sell trees as well as CDs compilations of his radio show called "The Best of Growing Native." The market’s fundraising raffle will feature gift certificates from Bisbee’s finest, beaucoup vendor items and a set of framed posters from winners of past Plein Air Contests. Elvia’s Mexican Kitchen returns!
May 10 – The farmers market is cancelled so as not to detract from the 100th Anniversary Celebration of Bisbee’s Firefighters who have saved the town many times. The event will take place throughout Vista Park and includes a parade, helicopter rides, vendors, Mexican food, a horseshoe contest and much more!
May 17 - Spring Plant Sale & Sheep Shearing Weaving & Spinning. Huge annual plant sale by Sierra Vista Area Garden Club with plants for every taste including native, drought tolerant varieties, veggie and herb starts and seeds. Sheep will be sheared, fleece spun into thread and then woven into cloth by Bisbee fiber Arts Guild. Contact Joan Ruane for more information at jsruane AT aol.com and 642-3603. Music by Vince Robel & Friends (acoustic guitar & mandolin, "folk & roll.")
May 24 – Cooking with the Market demonstration using spring veggies by Suzi Pretty and other farmers market chefs under special events tree. Sampling to follow. Music by Chris Dunwoody and his Classic Country Music Show who has performed all over Bisbee and the county for the past 13 years.
May 31 – Gardening with Angela. Master plantswoman, Angela Brandt, from Brandts Plants Nursery in Hereford, will talk about gardening with low water use plants that perform well here. Bring her your gardening questions and leave with lots of easy solutions. Music by Amy Ross of Willcox, one of the market’s favorite musicians, who sings mellow original music and accompanies herself on the keyboard with husband Derek.
