August 2 – Energy Efficient Housing. Find out about homes that use a fan for cooling in the summer and a crock pot or stove in the winter. Local strawbale expert, Terry Frederick and her family, will present her beautiful, comfortable and economical earth-plastered straw bale home that takes hardly any heating or cooling is SO quiet inside. Find out about the Strawbale E-Mail Network and local builders.
August 9 –Hoop it Up at the Market in support of World Hoop Day (8-8-08.) Bring hula hoops and your children to the Hoop Day Celebration when Master Bisbee Hoopstress, Melissa Gethin, will lead everyone in this healthy and fun practice, part dance, part exercise. The mission of World Hoop Day is to promote an active lifestyle for children around the world. Melanie makes sturdy hoops out of irrigation tubing and colored tape that last longer. She is raising money to make hoops to give away to children who cannot afford them. Hoops for sale. Vince Robel & Friends will provide just the right music to hoop by.
August 16 – Compost Happens event presented by expert Marcia Gibons who says “composting is my middle name.” Sierra Vista’s Worm Guy Richard James will bring his worm bins for a hands on demonstration of how these willing wriggly workers turn garbage into black gold. Handouts and organic gardening tips.
August 23 – Sixth Annual Chile Festival at Bisbee Farmers Market,8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Put some spice in your life! Local grower, Jane Wyatt of San Simon Chile Company will roast green chiles on site. Roasted green chiles available by the pound, half sack or sack. Fresh hot chiles and jalapeno chile products also for sale. Salsa Contest with prizes. Salsa cooking demonstration. Hot fiddle music by The Jones Gang Family Band with Pop on the bass, Mom on guitar and vocals, and 11 year old Sam Jones and 14 year old Lauren Jones, Arizona state twin fiddle champions. August 30 – Fall Flavors, Cooking with the Market. Learn to prepare late summer and fall produce with demos by Suzi Pretty and other market chefs. Sampling follows under the special events tree. Meet friends and family under the big tree’s outdoor café to listen to jazz singer Nancy Weaver and sip and sample market specialties.

September 13 – Fall Plant Sale by Sierra Vista Area Garden Club. Annual plant extravaganza by the prolific propagators of Sierra Vista. Stock up as fall is a good time to plant. Many experts to answer your plant questions. Vince Robel & Friends will keep everyone well entertained.
September 20 – Herb Fest. Bisbee is a hotbed for herbalists as Michael Moore’s Herb School was held in town for years. Information tables with samples to try, herb walk, demonstration by two master herbalists Mimi Kamp and Laura Smith (herbalist at the Bisbee Food Co-op.) Just the right singer for an Herb festival, Amy Ross plays soothing and sassy originals and old favorites with her melodious keyboard and husband Derek on guitar.
September 27 – Pie Contest and Pie Making Demo. Get ready to make good use of fall fruit. Enter your favorite pie and win market “bucks” good at any vendor. Contact Suzi Pretty at 432-2101 for contest information. Special points for pies made with healthier, low G.I. (glycemic index) sweetners such as agave nectar and stevia and mesquite meal in crusts. Mitch and Jenny Druckman will play folk and world music with acoustic guitar, harmonium and vocals.
